Why this drill works

Forces the golfer to rely on body rotation to generate speed from a short backswing, promoting lag. Holding the finish trains the body to decelerate in a way that allows the clubhead to lead the hands, rather than flipping.

How to do it

  1. 1

Take the club back only to a halfway point in your backswing (lead arm parallel to the ground).

  2. 2

Swing through, focusing on a 'hammering the nail' feeling by rotating around your left side.

  3. 3

Ensure your left hip and the grip move together.

  4. 4

Hold the finish (hands still leading) to prevent the club from passing your hands immediately after impact.
