Why this drill works

Visually verifies that the torso rotation is happening on the correct tilted axis (perpendicular to the spine), rather than a flat, baseball-like swing. This syncs the upper body's turn with the club's plane.

How to do it

  1. 1

    Place one club 90 degrees to the target line on the ground (use a ball under the heel for irons).

  2. 2

    Hold a second club across your shoulders and assume your golf posture.

  3. 3

    Rotate your body ensuring the club across your shoulders matches up with the club on the ground.

  4. 4

    Ensure the club on your shoulders points down towards the ground, not upwards.
