Why this drill works

The stick acts as a physical ceiling or barrier. An over-the-top slice swing is steep and will hit the stick. To miss it, you are forced to shallow the club and attack from the inside.

How to do it

  1. 1

    Tee up a ball.

  2. 2

Place an alignment stick in the ground on the far side of the ball (target line), angled so it hovers directly above the ball pointing at the target.

  3. 3

    Start with 40% speed swings.

  4. 4

Swing beneath the stick (from the inside) without hitting it, while focusing on turning the toe over.

  5. 5

Gradually increase speed to 60% and then 90% (playing speed).
