Why this drill works

Visual and physical barrier that forces a steep enough angle of attack to hit the ball first. Hitting the towel indicates the low point was too far back (casting/un-cocking early).

How to do it

  1. 1

    Fold a towel into a small rectangle.

  2. 2

    Place it on the ground about one grip length behind the ball.

  3. 3

    Hit shots focusing on missing the towel in both backswing and downswing.

  4. 4

    Progressively move the towel closer to the ball to increase difficulty.
