Why this drill works

This dynamic drill forces the pressure to be firmly planted onto the lead foot before impact, which is essential for transferring momentum and setting the low point correctly (ball-first contact). It eliminates the tendency to hang back on the trail side.

How to do it

  1. 1

Start by picking up your feet and exaggerating the 'right foot, left foot' motion.

  2. 2

Progress to a step drill: take a small step with your lead foot as you begin your downswing, planting it firmly before swinging through.

  3. 3

Focus on consistently striking the ground in the same spot, imagining a ball is there.
