Why this drill works

The driver head acts as a physical constraint against an early shoulder spin. This forces the golfer to delay the upper body's rotation, allowing the arms and club to drop naturally into a shallower, inside path (Arm Drop) rather than casting the club over the top.

How to do it

  1. 1

Setup (Constraint): Hold your driver by the clubhead and place it approximately 6 to 8 inches outside the golf ball. Take your address to the golf ball with a short iron (A-iron) (5:01-5:39).

  2. 2

Execution: Make a backswing with the short iron. The goal is to clip the ball off the tee while keeping the driver head in its place and the driver shaft vertical.

  3. 3

Feedback: If you spin your shoulders too quickly, the driver head will move or fall over (5:40-7:00).
